Ready to go beyond the basics of being a student manager? Come to this workshop and get the tools to tackle some of the more challenging issues you will face. We will focus on issues that can disrupt your office and the productivity of your employees including staff burnout and handling conflict between employees. We will also go over what it means to have a safer office space for all employees and what a manager can do to make sure that happens. *THIS TRAINING IS ALSO APPLICABLE TO ROOMMATE CONFLICT & RESOLUTION, AND ENSURING A RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENT. *

Advocacy
Effective Testimony & Personal Story Telling
Facts can win arguments, but personal stories and testimony make movements. One of the strongest assets the student movement has is a wealth of personal stories that highlight the need for a more affordable and accessible college education. Participants will learn how to frame their message and story, the standard guidelines for legislative testimony, and get an opportunity to practice and refine their story. *THIS TRAINING IS ALSO HELPFUL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CONVEY YOUR STORY TO BOSSESPROFESSORSADMIN OR EVEN OTHER STUDENTS!*

Why We Vote & Lobby
How do advocacy work and voter registration drives fit together? How has this work been done by student leaders in the past? What are the current issues facing colleges and universities in Oregon and how do you build power to exact positive change on these issues as student leaders? This group session will put ASSOU and OSA’s work into context and provide critical introductions to current events in higher education. *IF YOU'VE SIGNED UP TO LOBBY WITH ASSOU/OSA OR OSPIRG, THIS TRAINING IS REQUIRED*
