The SOU Chamber Choir has been hailed by iconic American composer Morten Lauridsen as: “superb… in the top rank of university chamber choirs in the United States”.   Featured works include Joseph Haydn’s charming “Alles Hat Seine Zeit”;  “Tu sangre en la mía”, a beautiful setting by Shawn Kirchner  of a touching Spanish poem by Pablo Neruda poem celebrating the power of simplicity and tenderness; “Rivers of Light” an homage to the northern lights by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, for choir and jew’s harp (sung in Latvian and English);  “I Am Not Yours” a lovely setting of a Sara Teasdale poem by American composer, Alvin Trotman, set for choir, piano and clarinet; Gweneth Walker's "I Will Be Earth" is based on a poem by May Swenson, that portrays contrasting expressions of love. The opening lines of the poem, “I will be earth, you be the flower,” are complimentary and gentle; Eric Whitacre’s magical setting of the classic children’s book “Good Night Moon”, for piano choir and soprano soloist; and Kwa Wote Upendo, a tour-de-force work combining Latin, English, and Swahili for 11-part choir, celebrating the ideals of unity and love. The concert title, "When the Earth Stands Still” is taken from a beautiful cross-over love ballad by Don Macdonald, and we will close with Byron Smith's "He'll Make A Way."

We hope that our music helps to still the chaos and uncertainty all around us. Jodi French accompanies on piano, Tatjana Luce on clarinet, and Aharon Wheels Bolsta on Jaw Harp. Featured vocalists: Katie Joos, soprano, Eric Sohnrey, baritone, and Alexandra Carwithen, soprano.
