DESCRIPTION:Dr. Fawn Canady\, SOU Assistant Professor of Education\n\n \n\n
What if a mapping is a form of community storytelling?\n\nCollective Carto
graphy is a place/community-based mapping project that brings people toget
her to share individual stories\, collectively.\n\n \n\nIn this IAS Collec
tive Cartography session Institute for Applied Sustainability at SOU\, we
’ll explore cultural sustainability through mapping as a playful yet rev
elatory way to tell stories about ‘place.’ Cultural sustainability is
about caring for a place by caring for the stories\, memories\, relationsh
ips\, and cultural practices connected to it—recognizing that environmen
tal stewardship and cultural preservation are deeply intertwined. If mappi
ng is a form of community storytelling\, what will we learn about each oth
er and our places?\n\n \n\nAfter a brief lecture\, participants will creat
 e their own maps of Ashland—of memories\, feelings\, connections\, or im
agined futures. You can draw\, write\, doodle\, or simply mark what matter
 s. There’s no “right” way to do it. This workshop is about noticing\
 , sharing\, and imagining together.
