John Cage famously said, "Percussion music is revolution." In its first eleven years, 1930–41, the concert percussion ensemble repertoire was established as a revoutionary force of modern music, and these works still resound with the conviction and experimentalism of their composers: Amadeo Roldán, Edgard Varése, William Russell, Henry Cowell, Johanna Magdalena Beyer, John Cage, and Lou Harrison.
