The SOU Outdoor Program is excited to offer Pacific Northwest Welcome (PNW), a three-day experience aimed at highlighting and exploring the local Ashland bioregion, culture, trails, hot spots and more. We have three unique trips available, all accessible from campus through human-powered transportation: Hike & Bike Adventure, Introduction to Ashland Climbing, and The Ashland Exploration. Trips start Friday, September 18th with an orientation evening to provide students the opportunity to meet all of our Outdoor Program staff and their fellow incoming students. Saturday and Sunday will be spent exploring the Ashland area and building a community of incoming students.
Hike and Bike Adventure: Have your hiking shoes ready and we will provide the bikes! On this trip, we will hike through the network of trails that lie on the mountain just behind the Southern Oregon University campus. We will also be exploring Ashland by bike on the marvelous Bear Creek Greenway that stretches from Ashland to Central Point. The goals of this trip are to get to know the Ashland area, introduce students to the Outdoor Program community, learn some tips for success for your time at SOU and having fun. Lunch will be provided as well as backpacks, bikes, helmets, and other necessary gear!

You will be in the Student Recreation Center’s very own Climbing Center and get to go to Emigrant Lake climbing crag located just five miles from campus. This trip will be focused on learning new skills, cultivating an inviting environment for new climbers, introducing students into the Outdoor Program community, learning some tips for success for your time at SOU, and having fun. No experience necessary. Lunch and climbing gear will be provided!
