Lorin Groshong specializes in oboe, but loves to play all of the other woodwinds almost as much. Her favorite professional activity is playing the “reed books” for musical theatre productions. In fact you can hear her this summer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Once On This Island, playing soprano saxophone, multiple flutes and clarinet!
She grew up in Ashland, Oregon where her foundational music educators were Raymond Weaver (oboe and cor anglais) and Sherril Wood (flute). This local education was supplemented by her studies at Northwestern University. She was introduced to the life of a professional musician in the great Chicago ‘music scene’. In the last twenty years some performance highlights have included: performing Handel’s Messiah in Chicago’s famed Orchestra Hall, playing oboe in Natalie Merchant’s orchestra at the Britt Festival, being in the on-stage band for Head Over Heels at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and performing oboe and english horn regularly with the Rogue Valley Symphony.
