Two former SOU science students share their journeys from SOU through medical school and into their careers as practicing physicians.
Laurel Naversen Geraghty, M.D., is a board-certified dermatologist and Co-Medical
Director of Dermatology & Laser Associates of Medford. Dr. Geraghty completed her
dermatology residency at Stanford University in 2016. She earned her medical degree
from New York University School of Medicine in 2012 and a B.A. in English from Brown
University in 1997. While preparing for medical school, she took post-baccalaureate
science courses for one year at Southern Oregon University. Prior to her career in
medicine, Dr. Geraghty worked in New York City as a writer and editor, and as an editor
at Allure and Senior Beauty Editor at Glamour magazine. Her clinical interests include
skin cancer prevention and early detection, general dermatology, lasers, and aesthetic
dermatology. She has published academic papers on melanoma, skin disorders of
pregnancy, cosmetic dermatology, and lasers for the treatment of scars, wrinkles, and
other conditions. Her work has appeared in the Journal of the American Medical
Association and Cancer. She has spoken at national dermatology conferences and
directed Stanford’s resident cosmetic dermatology clinic for two years.

Dr. Geraghty grew up in Southern Oregon, and enjoys working in the same practice as
her dermatologist father, Dr. Douglas Naversen.
