Content Warning: Themes of medical trauma.

Art can serve as an outlet for living with chronic illness, yet the demands of creating art can be acute reminders of the limitations that illness puts on us. In Harbor(ing), viewers are encouraged to explore a space that amplifies this tension between art as escape from, yet also a reminder of, chronic illness. This multimedia installation consists of dance and video by Courtney Holleman, and looping pre-recorded audio and live improvised performance by Sophie Chin. Please keep in mind that the live improvised performance is structured so that viewers can come and go as they would like.

Sophie Chin is a percussionist and composer based in Ashland, Oregon, and currently pursuing their Master’s in Music at Southern Oregon University. They create improv works that transcend the boundary of composition as well as commission new works for speaking and singing percussion.

Courtney Holleman is a dancer, choreographer, and artist based in Washington. She believes in increasing accessibility within dance performance, the inextricable nature of emotion and motion, and exploring all that movement has to offer.
