Rock Show Gala features music written and performed by MUSIX, a premiere pop music ensemble associated with Music Industry & Production at Southern Oregon University. 

MUSIX is a wide-open space for musical creativity that takes its inspiration from the popular sphere and its myriad of styles and genres. Students are arranged in a variety of ensembles to write, perform, and produce original music with the goal of releasing it through a live and/or online performance. All instrumentalists at any level are encouraged to participate including singers, rappers, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, DJs/turntablists, computer-musicians, and orchestral/jazz instrumentalists. Over the course of a semester, students and the instructor create music in a variety of ways. In fact, those who read music are often paired with those who intuit music. It can even be created through an improvisational, “by rote” fashion, or completely conceived, written out, and prepared for performers to rehearse. This new music is often written down as a lead sheet or memorized through the process of aurally organizing various sections of musical structure. Regardless, all approaches to composing are aimed towards preparing an evening-length concert at the end of the term and/or to produce audio recordings worthy of release to the public.
